Is Anybody Out There?

I've been checking back now and then to see if anyone is actually visiting my blog, and have been disappointed to see that nobody has. Kind of takes the motivation out of spending the time to update it.

I know that many people use blogs to commnicate with friends and family. They update their blogs with words and pictures because it is easier than calling everyone all the time to tell them about some brilliant thing their 2 year old said, or show them how great the flowers in the backyard are coming in this spring.

But I started my blog to make new friends. Friends I will likely never call, or visit. Friends who I will probably have nothing more than an online relationship with. Friends who I might even have more in common with than my real friends...

So if by some random miracle or twist of fate you happen to stumble upon this blog while mindlessly surfing the internet in a drunken stupor, or you just happen to be bored and came upon it and have a few minutes to spare, please indulge my fantasy, and use that time to say hello (NYCRadio@gmail.com or click 'comments' below). That way I won't feel that doing this is a complete waste of my life.

Who is Eric Margolis?

The reason I started this blog is because I love to write, and I have no other creative writing outlet at the moment. So I guess it's an exercise in personal therapy...something to give me that false sense of accomplishment I seem to need so badly these days. And writing just makes me feel good.

Funny how I never truly took the time to consider who I am. At least not in the context of having to describe myself to total strangers. This exercise is turning out to be more challenging than I thought; and weirdly seductive. You should try it sometime...

So on we go...

I am Eric Margolis. male, 55 years old, with the overall maturity level of a 27 year old. A nice guy. Not very complicated. Generally a happy person. Above average intelligence. Pretty creative mind. White. Jewish. I have worked in the radio business for more than 30 years, and it has been my biggest passion, and my lifelong hobby.

I have been married once, and I've been divorced for 7 years. I got married late in life, and I have a 12 year old son who is much smarter than I was at his age. To be completely honest, he's smarter than I was when I was nearly twice his age. He says he wants to be a surgeon when he grows up...and I believe he will be. Although he seems to have too much personality for the medical profession.

That's it about me for now. I'll be telling you much more as time goes on.

I am trying to become a better listener these days (you learn a lot when you stop talking so much), so I'd like to hear from you now. What is it that makes you feel good? What is your passion? Music? Money? Baseball cards? Something a bit less normal?

What drives you? What makes you look forward to getting up in the morning? What is it in your life that makes the difficult times worthwhile? What makes you smile?
